TRYOUT INFORMATION

Hello Hooligan Parents and Future Hooligans!

A few changes are coming to the program and I wanted you to hear it from me before it gets blasted all over social media and the like. Many of you may have heard the rumors that we will be partnering with ABA, well those rumors are true. Over the last few months, I have been meeting with ABA to discuss how a merger and partnership would work. I am happy to say that we have figured things out and both programs are extremely excited for what this will do for New Mexico baseball.

This merger will not take full effect until the Fall of the 2024 season. However, starting in the Spring, Hooligans and ABA will be working side-by-side. This will include running tryouts together, collaborating on coaching strategies and training, and bringing on new staff that will work with all players and parents.

I have met with coaches and filled them in, but just to address some questions that I know you will all have:

  • Hooligan’s players will not see a price increase in the Spring or Fall
  • Your teams are not going to be split up
  • Practices will still be held at the MAC and in Rio Rancho (weekend field practices may move to Albuquerque)
  • All youth teams will still be called Hooligans (this includes ABA teams come next Fall)
  • Mike McDermott (Hooligans) and Mike Foote (ABA) will head up this new program

All current players will receive Spring commitment paperwork at the end of next week. If this is completed and submitted prior to tryouts then you have secured your player’s spot in the program for the Spring season. If this is not completed by tryouts, then we will treat that as an open roster spot and the player will have to attend tryouts to be considered.

Once tryouts are completed, we will begin rolling out our new training a bit at a time. Please, bear with us as we go through this transition, there will be bumps in the road but we will get everything ironed out.

Go Hooligans!
